Almost two
years ago I wrote about Raul Midon, a singer-songwriter I
encountered on The Late Show with David Letterman. When I went
scouting for Amy Winehouse videos to add to my previous
blogpost, I suddenly remembered I hadn't been able to find
video of Raul's performance, so it is about time to correct
that. Two years later, it still amazes me how the usually
quite sedate Late Show crowd respond to this amazing
performance. And rightly so!
This is what I would call The Ultimate in Feel-Good Music. When
I was in my twenties, I was very much into soul and jazz. Later
on, I moved on to more noise-orientated guitar music, but
sometimes an artist pulls me right back into that era of
impressive arrangements, horn sections and what I would call 'a
nightclub atmosphere'.
Enter Amy
Winehouse, a British artist with an incredible voice and
presence, and most of all: an incredible, powerful and
thoroughly original live perfomer. I do hope she manages to
overcome her somewhat destructive lifestyle.
If you don't like this, you truly have no soul ..
Enjoy! The first song below definitely won me over.
Amy Winehouse - You Sent Me Flying (Live, Sessions@AOL) When the drummer joins in halfway through (3:14, or 2:58
when counting down) ... Man! That hits me right where
it hurts. (Lyrics)
Amy Winehouse - Tears dry on their own (Live, Later with
Jools Holland) Sounds like an old-fashioned Eurovision
Song Contest entry!) (Lyrics)
Amy Winehouse - In My Bed (Live, Sessions@AOL) (Lyrics)
Amy Winehouse - Stronger than me (Live, Later with Jools
Holland) (Lyrics)
Amy Winehouse - Mr Magic (Live)
Amy Winehouse - Know you now (Live, Sessions@AOL) (Lyrics)
